In the vast majority of cases, volunteers have their clients' best interests at heart and perform their duties with professionalism and dedication. But in some tragic instances, volunteers have abused their responsibility and violated the trust placed in them. Recent events have only highlighted a growing concern about caregivers and the roles they play – bringing to light the need to know more about the personal histories of those who seek to serve children, as well as elderly and disabled people.

• An estimated 2.5 million children have benefited from VolunteerSelect screens.
• Identified more than 30,000 felony-level convictions (3%), including more than 1400 sexual assaults and violent crimes - 140 of which were committed against children and 24 were registered sex offenders.
